The SUWI team took part in the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation – Managing Scare Resources Conference

Date: 29 & 30 September

Location: Savanah Estate, Pietermaritzburg.

Academically the focus of this conference was concentrated on managing scarce resources in the African Context. Five main themes were discussed during the two day conference: Education, Energy, Water, Environment, and Horticulture. 17 academics and scholars from South Africa, Germany, Kenya and Nigeria presented their work and research ranging from the positives and negatives of various energy sources to water security for South Africa.

The conference offered an opportunity for SUWI to share the Phase I data and research that had been accumulated thus far relating specifically to the themes of both education and the water resource. The presentation evoked enthusiastic debate amongst those present, but was generally met with support by all. The proliferation of the research being conducted on behalf of the EWSETA for Phase I, and also Phase II and the project in general, amongst academics in education and water, both locally and internationally, is consistent with the SUWI objective of widespread proliferation of and stakeholder engagement in the project.
